Gran Azul Ecoresort will be happy to give you advice and information regarding the best tours and excursions, and to book any activity you might be interested in joining.
Salento is known as the cradle municipality of the Wax Palm, Colombia’s national tree, and it is full of touristic highlights, all related to observing nature. This is a region with beautiful countryside which is accesible via its network of hiking trails. Our traditional “Willys” will drive you to the imposing Valle de Cocora National Park, where you can admire one of the most spectacular landscapes in Colombia, take part in ecological walks, horse-riding or mountain-bike excursions.
Salento is also the gateaway to Los Nevados National Park and its moor ecosystems. 335 birds species and more than 350 butterfly species have been detected. Trekkings are organized to one of the highest peaks of the country: Nevado de Tolima (5220 m), an active volcano located in the central mountain range of the Colombian Andes. The hiking excursions to the mountains start directly from the Cocora Valley and last for three or four days.
We recommend a visit to a Colombian Coffee Farm, where you can join a Coffee Tour and observe the coffee production from its harvesting to its degustation.
Time seems to have stood still in the small village of Salento, and it’s not uncommon to see people still riding horses to come into town. The stunning landscapes surrounding Salento make it a fantastic place for horse riding. From coffee plantations, to waterfalls, to valleys, there is a huge number of things to see and trails to explore.
Salento is a fantastic location for mountain biking in Colombia. Our beautiful, little town is surrounded by lush, green mountains with scenic trails for riding a bike. Gran Azul has a range of mountain bikes at your disposal for rent.
Our guests will be welcome to join in one of our Organic Garden Workshops. Fruits and vegetables offered during breakfast and supper come from our extensive organic garden and from other ecological plantations around us. We will be glad to share with you our passion for this fertile colombian soil which provides so many good fruits.
For the smallest guests in Gran Azul we organize creative workshops for children between 3 and 13 years in La Casita de Guadua, an area in the property provided with swings, slide, mud kitchen, sandbox, and many other wonderful toys.
